Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested two men from Kibuye, a suburb in Kampala on charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

Moses Kigozi and his partner in crime were arrested following several complaints from the public. The group has been calling the unsuspecting public giving them false information alleging they have won lotteries and goods.

They go ahead to ask the victim to pay some sort of fee in order to claim the prize or winnings from a competition or lottery they never entered. After falling into the trap and paying the money, they switch off their phones before delivering the goods.

On arrest, Police carried out a search at Kigozi’s home and found fake currency notes, over 100 SIM cards among other documents used to carry their scams. The duo is currently being detained at Kira Division Police Station as operations are still on going to have the whole group arrested.

The SIM cards recovered.

“We would also want to urge the public to be aware of such con artists.
They always pretend to know you and would earn your trust only to disappear after you have sent them the money,” Police said and encouraged the public to report such cases to the nearest Police station for investigations.
