Chairperson of the organizing committee for the farewell and enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba, Ruth Nankabirwa has revealed that Church of Uganda needs about Shs1.1 billion to organize the function.

According to Nankabirwa, the function is set to attract religious leaders and other guests from all corners of the world. She also revealed that a series of renovations are needed before the event happens.

“The total amount of money which we need is Shs1.16 billion, and this includes renovation of the official residence, the office and also about Shs12 million for final touches on the cathedral,” Nankabirwa said while addressing journalists at the Church of Uganda Provincial secretariat in Namirembe.

Nankabirwa revealed how they have to buy new furniture for the diocese and purchase a brand new car for the new Archbishop.

Before announcing a resource mobilization drive to fund the budget, the government Chief Whip disclosed that Cabinet has already contributed Shs25 million.  Nankabirwa said she will also reach out to Parliament.

Dr Kazimba was elected Archbishop of the Church of Uganda on August 28, 2019, during a meeting of the House of Bishops. The 57-year-old will be the 9th Archbishop of Church of Uganda.

He will take the rod from His Grace Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, who will clock 65 years of age on March 1 next year.
