President Museveni has ruled Uganda for 33 years and counting but veteran journalist, Andrew Mwenda believes the 73-year-old is still hungry and not willing to let anyone take up his seat.

Mwenda claims that Museveni has effected transitions in different government institutions but for the top office, he trusts no one, not even his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

“I don’t think President Museveni has a plan for power transition even for Muhoozi. He has a plan for himself to stay in power. He has carried out a general transition in the UPDF, but not the Cabinet,” Mwenda said.

The current affairs analyst asserts that the recent Cabinet reshuffle explains a lot on how determined Museveni is to stay in power. He says although Museveni included young people in his Cabinet, they will be toothless as Museveni will remain the spin of making any verdict.

“The young people have been brought in, but I thought he would give them greater power. I don’t see in Museveni’s Cabinet a path to any form of transition,” Mwenda said.

“If we were seeing a younger Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers and the Speaker, then we would feel that politically, he is preparing for the transition,” he added.

Such comments make one ask wonder whether there is any human who has ever ruled forever!
