Early today, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released the results from last year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

While at the unveiling of the results, State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo had a word or two for students that will be making a transition from high school to institutions of higher learning.

Muyingo encouraged students not to take on degrees just for the sake of it as has become the norm these days. He told students not to be excited by the after-degree celebrations but to look at the skills they get out of it.

He told the students that it is much better to undertake a certificate or a diploma as opposed to doing a degree without attaining skills in the end.

On the matter of students who drop out of school due to financial constrictions, the Minister encouraged smart but financially unable students to make use of the government student loan scheme and apply for student loans as early as possible, to further their education.

A total of 104,481 students sat for A-Level exams in 2019 taking sciences, arts and language subjects.
