Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral has pledged to help more than 500 families with food and home essentials. Kayanja has launched a “bucket project” through which 5.1 metric tons of maize flour, soap, Dettol, sugar, and rice will be given to at least 500 homesteads daily, for the next 30 days.

The first donations were made yesterday on Friday in Kisenyi, a slum in Kampala. According Pastor Kayanja, the essentials will help sustain families following a partial shutdown by government.

Pastor Kayanja called on others to support the nation in whatever way they could.

“This is the time for the advantaged to reach out to the disadvantaged, and those in abundance to reach out to those in need,” Kayanja said

“Support us to reach out to the people through the “Bucket Project”. Let God remember your good deeds, good deeds are not only righteous deeds but also humanitarian deeds,” the pastor posted on his Twitter account.

“People are going to go hungry if maybe a lockdown is put up and some people might resort to stealing. So we are providing for those people who are not well off, in preparation for what is to come,” Pastor Kayanja said.

Uganda yesterday reached a total of 23 COVID-19 cases.
