As we speak now, or rather write, the entire country is on total lockdown for 14 days following President Museveni’s directives that he issued in an address to the country last night from State House. The move is intended to stop the spreading of coronavirus that has infected 33 people in the country.

This morning, Presidential Advisor on Media Affairs Tamale Mirundi weighed in on the President’s directives, and was all but in support of them. However, he said that if Africans were not so corrupt, the pandemic wouldn’t have entered the continent.

With coronavirus cases increasing in Africa, Tamale said that Africa is now paying the price of corruption for the greed of immigration officers at the airports and border entry points, letting people in without checking or quarantine in exchange of a few hundred dollars.

“Africa is paying for its corruption; immigration officers were bribed to let people pass, skip or escape quarantine at airports before flights were banned,” Tamale said, adding that if he were the President, all those Ministers that picked their children and relatives from mandatory quarantine would be already fired by now.

Globally, the pandemic has infected over 787,000 people, Africa being the least affected with about 5000 cases confirmed.
