Members of Parliament have expressed their displeasure with the move by government to prioritise Kampala and Wakiso in the distribution of food relief in this craving situation of COVID-19.

This prompted the Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga to ask the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to halt the distribution schedule of food in Kampala and Wakiso.

Kadaga said she has learnt that government has so far only got money to buy relief food for the people in Kampala and Wakiso. She said Parliament will have to look into the issue.

“It is unfortunate. Government has managed to get money to feed Kampala and Wakiso and you cannot find funds to feed the rest of the country. Many programmes have ended up in Kampala and Wakiso only,” Kadaga said.

Over the weekend, President Museveni announced plans of distributing food to people who are affected by his lockdown. Yesterday Rugunda told Parliament that government has scheduled Saturday April 4, 2020 to start distributing food starting with Kampala and Wakiso.

Food was to be distributed at L.C. 1 level by the L.C. Chairpersons supported by Police and UPDF for purposes of transparency, and avoiding crowds.

Rugunda revealed that every person will get six kilograms of maize flour, three kilograms of beans, and salt. Breastfeeding mothers and sick people will receive two kilograms of powdered milk and two kilograms of sugar each.
