For the first time, President Museveni publically weighed on parliament’s self-allocation of COVID-19 Fund worth Shs10 billion. Museveni said it was immoral for Members of Parliament to give themselves money for personal use when the country is in such a crisis.
The President said the move was a result of bad planning because as government they had already planned a totally different way.
“When I met with the Speaker, I told her they should get out of that trap and the best way to do it is by not spending this money on themselves. I agreed with the Speaker to donate that money to the district task force where they lead,” Museveni said during yesterday’s Presidential address.
He warned those who have misused the money before urging Ugandans to forgive those who have handed it over to the task force.
“The legislator who took the Shs20 million to the district task force should be forgiven. We should condemn those who spent the money on themselves and the one who bought the things should sort things out with the Auditor General,” he said.
