Last month on the 29th, Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina recommended an organic concoction to cure the infected COVID-19 patients. The concoction, a form of herbal tea that was named COVID Organics (CVO) was “tried, tested and proved to be effective in reducing and eliminating symptoms from COVID-19 patients in Madagascar,” according to President Rajoelina.

On hearing this, several African states like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Guinea Bissau, Senegal, and Equatorial Guinea inquired about the drink, with the two Guinea countries already importing it.

The latest client of Madagascar is Tanzania, where President Magufuli has promised to send a plane to the Island country to fetch the ‘cure’ for his Tanzanian countrymen and women.

“I am communicating with Madagascar, and they have already written a letter saying they have discovered some medicine. We will despatch a flight to bring the medicine so that Tanzanians can also benefit. So as the government, we are working day and night,” Magufuli said while speaking on TV today.

Currently, Madagascar has a total of 149 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 98 recoveries and no deaths. People in the country have taken up the herbal tea with the government distributing it for free to the most vulnerable and selling it at a low cost for others.

Tanzania is the worst-hit country in East Africa with 480 cases and 167 recoveries, registering 17 deaths to date. His response to the pandemic, mainly the refusal to lockdown the country has been widely blamed for the increased number of COVID-19 infections in the country.
