Man found drinking beer past curfew time survives prison, fined Shs500,000

Makindye grade one court has convicted a 34-year-old man for violating the 7a.m curfew that was announced by President Museveni in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grade One Magistrate Patience Phiona Tukundane convicted Posiano Kwizera after he pleaded guilty of drinking in a bar moreover past curfew hours.

Tukundane ordered Kwizera to pay a fine of Shs500,000 in default to serve a six-month imprisonment after he was found guilty of doing an act likely to spread the infection of Coronavirus.

However, Kwizera’s relatives managed to raise 500,000 shillings and he managed to finally gain his freedom. Kwizera was arrested on May 9, 2020 at Kisugu in Makindye division.

Prosecution states that Kwizera was with colleagues but they managed to escape from the law enforcers.
