Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has directed the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda to appear in Parliament and explain the relief plan government has for Ugandans whose businesses remain closed following the extension of lockdown.

“We are demanding that the Prime Minister comes and addresses this matter. This country needs serious answers about this issue,” Kadaga said.

On Monday this week, President Museveni made his 17th nation address about COVID-19. Despite making a series of relaxations on the lockdown, many businesses still remain closed due to the existing guidelines. Among these include; arcades, bars, schools, universities, bodabodas and salons among others.

However, Museveni hinted that government will be registering all privately owned businesses that are still under lockdown and see how they can extend financial capital.

Museveni said the capital will not be free but rather obtained at a very low interest rate.
