The wave of change at Uganda Revenue Authority that started in March this year with the replacement of the then Commissioner General Doris Akol with John Musinguzi Rujoki keeps rolling as new changes are effected almost every month.

Last month, URA boss Musinguzi Rujoki ordered all staff at the revenue collection body to take fresh interviews to ascertain their eligibility for the positions they hold and those deemed unfit by interview results would be dropped.

There have been more changes. Today, July 1, 2020, Musinguzi has effected reshuffles of 211 URA staff in the customs department according to Commissioner for Customs Abel Kagumire and these will take their new positions effective immediately.

URA Spokesperson Vincent Seruma has said that the reshuffle is a normal transfer where employees are rotated in different departments to acquire new skills, and added that the entire organisation will get this kind of rotation.

“We normally transfer our staff, it is a normal transfer. We always transfer people, especially at the turn of a new financial year. We do it to allow them to acquire different positions and skills. Secondly, all staff have to be given exposure to different conditions. We are going to transfer the entire organisation actually. All departments are going to face transfer,” Seruma said.

The reshuffle comes as new Commissioner General Rujoki tries to streamline the authority’s operations and fight corruption as per President Museveni’s directives to ‘clean’ government sectors.

The 2020/21 Financial Year has started today and URA is looking at achieving its revenue collection target of Shs21.8 trillion.
