UPDF officer transferred after repeatedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old girl

A 14 year old girl in Moyo district has gone missing after being defiled and impregnated by a UPDF soldier. The girl who was repeatedly defiled by the medical army officer at Goopi Village army detachment in Metu sub-county went to seek medication June 1 and ended up disappearing from her parent’s home since then.

The family claims before the disappearance of their daughter, they had filed a case of aggravated defilement against the suspect with the hope of the accused being arrested but all their efforts were in vain.

“We have tried our best to follow up the police case but it seems the suspect is elusive to justice. I spend sleepless nights thinking about our lost daughter,” Ms Kelementina Chunyua, the victim’s mother said.

According to the girl’s brother, Patrick Alumai when the solider realised that the family had filed a defilement case against him, he approached them and asked to marry the girl, a request which they turned down.

The village chairperson of Goopi East, Christopher Andevu confirmed registering a case of defilement and a missing person but referred the family to Police because the lower council courts don’t handle such cases

However, the police officers at Moyo Central Police Station said the suspect had been transferred to Paanzala army detachment in the neighbouring Dufile Sub-county.

The Police spokesperson West Nile, Josephine Angucia said that the force can’t do much since the suspect is from a sister security organisation that has transferred him to another location.

“Talk to the army leadership since the matter is under the docket, they would be of help once notified.

On the other hand, Lt. Col David Opeero, the UPDF 503 Brigade Commander said the family hasn’t lodged the case yet.

“As UPDF, we have very capable legal  and investigation team. I encourage the family to follow the right channels and we see how they can be helped,” said Opeero.
