With many political players anticipating rampant acts of violence in the forthcoming general elections, Uganda Police Force is set to recruit 50,000 Special Police Constables (SPCs) to help in manning elections at all Polling stations across the country.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga today told journalists that the SPCs will be recruited across the country and will be trained in different skills at every district.

He said the recruitment exercise will be headed by RDCs together with Regional police Commanders, DPCs and those interested must be Ugandan citizens without bad records.

In August this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni passed out a total of 4,809 police officers at the Police Training School-Kabalye in Masindi. In his address, Museveni stated that when he came to power in 1986, the Police force had diminished in numbers but that after re-organizing it, it has now grown from only 3,000 officers to 46,000 personnel.

He revealed that the police-population ration is now 800 to 1 but their target is to have 500 to 1.
