Activist Dr. Stella Nyanzi together with her three children have travelled out of the country to our neighbour Kenya.

Nyanzi who lost in the recently concluded parliamentary elections to National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Shamim Malende reportedly fled the country by bus with claims that the state was targeting her life and arrest.

According to sources, the former Makerere University researcher fled the country on Tuesday (February 2), and sought asylum in Kenya.

Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo however downplays Nyanzi’s claims saying she has been involved in so many controversies including serving a jail term and when she was released, nobody threatened her.

“Why didn’t she run away after she left jail? This is part of the opposition scheme to try and smear Uganda as a country that is not worth living in.

All presidential candidates who contested and lost are still living here including some who have disputed the results,” Ofwono said.
