The clearing agent who handled National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s armored vehicle clearance at URA, has come out and made it clear that the car underwent all mandatory inspections by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

The agent, who has only been identified as Cranimer, told Daily Monitor newspaper in a phone conversation, that “URA officials found that the vehicle had not been stolen and all the documents presented were authentic.”

When asked the type of car he cleared, Cranimer said that he wasn’t in position to respond to that question and distanced himself from the security services.

“I am not in position to answer that at the moment. Secondly , I have never been in the army or Police. I just cleared a Vechicle based on the information from URA ,” said Cranimer.

He also said that security officers haven’t contacted him yet but incase they contact him he will be willing to talk to them.

How the Car got in to the Country?

On November 5, 2020, the Car originally registered in the names of Fauiz Khalid number plate KCY550X got into the country from Kenya through Busia Border and was handed over to Yuasa (deals in importation of cars from Japan) by Marion Alukodo.

On November 19, 2020, Khalid signed an importation declaration form at Busia border post stating that he was the rightful owner of the car and the declaration was verified by Juliet Tuhirirwe, an officer of URA at the customs office.

The vehicle was then issued an Interpol Certificate of Verification and the date of importation stated as January 6, 2020.

However the acting director of Interpol Charles Birungi said that he didn’t sign on the letter.

“I am not the one who signed that letter . I first need to cross check then I will get back to you. It is true that the letter bears my name, but another officer signed it so I have to check whether the letter is forged or there is a problem with the date.” Said Birungi
