Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) Commander for Land Forces has rubbished the relevance of US sanctions against him claiming that he totally has no business with America.

Elwelu is among the several high ranking security commanders in Uganda who were recently sanctioned by the US, for alleged involvement in human rights abuses in Uganda.

Speaking shortly after taking oath as the UPDF representative in the 11th Parliament, Elwelu scoffed at the US saying he is happy being in Uganda all his life.

“What is US, I don’t know America, I know Uganda. I don’t need them I will be here; I was born here, I will die here and be buried here,” Elwelu said.

Elwelu is much remembered for commanding the raid on Kasese Palace in November 2016 where at least 153 people including children died during the clashes.

According to Elwelu, Kasese is now peaceful due to his spot on judgement that led to elimination of criminals in the area.
