Outgoing Minister of Lands Beti Kamya has said that the people of Lubaga North are the reason she was not appointed by President Yoweri Museveni in his new cabinet because they did not vote for her when she contested as a Member of Parliament in the January 14 polls. She said Museveni should not be blamed for dropping her.

Kamya was replaced by Judith Nabakooba who also lost the Mityana District Woman MP Seat and was instead appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on Land issues.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV, Kamya said even without being in the Cabinet, she will live a better life than she did while in the Opposition.  She claimed that she has been much more useful during the five years she’s been in NRM than the 30 years she was in opposition.

“In the five years I have been in the NRM, I have built a profile I was unable to build for the many years I was in the Opposition,” Kamya said.

“I love my party. It has done a lot for me. It has taught me a lot and has built my profile as a person,” she added.

Kamya was one of the founder members of Reform Agenda, which later transformed into Forum for Democratic Party (FDC). She later quit the party to form her own Political party, Uganda Federal Alliance.

In the 2016 elections, she contested for the presidency. However, she later accepted to join the Government serving at first as Minister for Kampala and later as Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
