With Kampala registering the highest number of Covid 19 cases, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) early this week carried out an operation to decongest Kikuubo, one of the busiest and most congested streets in town.

KCCA in a joint operation with Police raided Kikuubo, destroying all the makeshift stalls on the streets so as to reduce congestion and ensure social distancing, handwashing and the wearing of face masks.

The operation affected over 100 vendors in Kikuubo whose stalls were demolished . The razed stalls had been set up on the verandas outside shops in Kikuubo.

The affected vendors say they were caught off-guard and blame government for failing to have a strategy to deal with Covid 19.  They also say that KCCA never issued them a warning.

A one Fredrick Wamala says that he had just cleared rent of Shillings 500,000 when he was asked to remove his merchandise and the stall taken away. Seated on the verandah where he used to work, Wamala wore a confused face, saying he was uncertain how he would fend for his family now that his job is no more.
