Four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has said that the current challenging situation of COVID-19 is not a matter of which political party you subscribe to but rather a matter that concerns every Ugandan.

According to Besigye, survival is for the organised, not the disorganised hence revealing that the situation will change through the public’s assertive effort.

“We must pull each other to survive. If you have bunches of matooke in your garden share with your neighbors. This is a time to be compassionate. It’s up to us, to survive or to die and we can survive,” said Besigye.

“Ugandans must understand that health is a public good. In fact I am a strong advocate of universal Healthcare. Health is the most important of all public goods.  It’s one where we must make our collective choices together and respond collectively,” he added.

The former FDC president however blames government for recklessly managing the situation. He said majority of the public doesn’t trust government.

“Ugandans are starving, only Shs59 billion was given to buy food and a thousand billion was taken to State House for “secret” work. What secret work is there during a pandemic that needs so much money?” he asked.

Besigye wondered how government locked down people without first making plans for their welfare.

“People are now stressed in their houses, all these factors are contributing to the terrible situation we are in,” he said.
