The Ministry of Health is seeking for Shs9billion to clear taxes for the newly procured Covid-19 double cabin pick-ups.
Yesterday, the Health Minister, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng told the Parliamentary Covid Task force that the ministry had failed to clear the 121 pickups.
“We have failed to clear the 121 pickups because of taxes worth Sh9billion,”said Hon.Aceng
The pickups
The pickups are part of the fleet of the 282 double cabin pickups purchased from the COVID-19 response donation funds.

The National Covid-19 Response Fund Donations Committee with guidance from President Museveni approved the use of Shs 23.9 bn from the Covid donations for the purchase of 282 pickups (double cabin) to help in disease surveillance and laboratory follow up.

Hon. Aceng told the Mps that their efforts to have Finance waive off taxes from the pick ups were futile.
“We requested finance to waiver off taxes since this was money from a donation and finance responded in the negative saying we need to look for the money to clear the taxes,” said Hon. Acheng.
The purchase of the pickups attracted backlash from Ugandans on social media.

It is important to note how similar this maculopapular rash looks to the smallpox rash, also an orthopoxvirus.
