Over 180 newly recruited water engineers and technicians at National Water and Sewerage Corporation have undergone basic training by Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The purpose of training is to strengthen the corporation’s ability to end illegal connections.

The three-week exercise dubbed Induction Training and Basic Cadre Course was held at Kyambogo University and the recruits were passed out at a function held at NWSC International Resource Centre, Bugolobi.

Eng. Silver Mugisha, the Managing Director NWSC said the new staff underwent what he called unique training to introduce them to a variety of skills and values that will guide them in curbing the main factors of revenue loss to the corporation including illegal connections and leakages.

He said they always had a normal induction of recruits but enhanced it with military training.

“For purposes of   teaching our people to love their country, discipline and inculcating a sense of commitment, we want to get those who want to work for their country so that they can contribute to its economic development. We are not going to tolerate lazy staff. We want if there is an incidence,” said Mugisha.
