Former Kawempe South MP Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has said that the opposition should stop fighting with each other and plan for President Museveni’s return in the 2026 general elections.

Munyagwa believes that it has been shown clearly that Museveni is coming back in 2026 and the opposition needs to unite and plan. ‘Mugati gwa Butter’ is a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party and lost his Kawempe South seat to NUP’s Bashir Kazimbwe in the 2021 parliamentary elections.

Last week, NRM’s Electoral Commission Chairperson Tanga Odoi disclosed that Museveni will stand in the next election.

According to Munyagwa, the opposition must react before it’s too late.

“We have to deal with Museveni before the next election through the ways provided for by the Constitution,” said Munyagwa.

He added, “I don’t understand the opposition. It seems like we were jinxed. We don’t take the opportunity of serious opportunities.”

Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM spokesperson responded to Munyagwa saying; “I don’t see any problem with President Museveni contesting in the next election, but he will have to go through the NRM party procedures.”
