Security operations have ramped up around Kayunga town ahead of today’s last campaigns of all the candidates in the Kayunga LC 5 chairperson by-election.

Information we are gathering from our sources on the ground indicates that there is tight security, with armored cars seen in every part of Kayunga town as both President Yoweri Museveni and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine are expected to canvas support for there respective candidates.

Museveni is expected in Kayonza Sub County, Kayunga to drum up support for the NRM candidate, Andrew Muwonge as well as meet district party leaders and security committee ahead of the by-elections on Thursday.

NUP’s Harriet Nakwede is supposed to hold her final campaign rally in Kayunga town council and Bobi Wine is expected to grace the event.

However, Bobi Wine has this morning posted on social media claiming that police and military have been deployed at his home in Magere.

“This morning, ahead of my planned visit to Kayunga District to campaign for our flag bearer, the police and military deployed overnight around my home in an apparent attempt to block me from leaving. The cowardly regime is on its way out. A matter of time,” said Bobi Wine in a post.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson yesterday revealed that no one will be blocked from accessing Kayunga since it is an open by-election process.
