Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has reportedly been secretly flown to Seattle, United States of America (USA) for specialized treatment.

Oulanyah was flown out in the wee hours of Thursday, after being discharged from Mulago National Referral Hospital where he had been admitted.

Sources reveal that government chattered Uganda Airlines’ Airbus and it charged $500,000 (about Shs1.7 billion) to fly Oulanyah and his family to Seattle.

The move to fly him out was reportedly ordered by President Museveni after Oulanyah’s health failed to improve after a week-long treatment at Mulago.

Sources reveal that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority processed all the necessary documents to get the speaker flown out.

Oulanyah was last seen in Parliament on December 21, 2021. His deputy Anita Among has mostly been in charge of the parliamentary business.

Last year, shortly after his swearing-in as Speaker, Oulanyah disappeared from the public eye for a month after presiding over Parliament at the reading of the 2021/2022 financial year budget at Kololo Independence grounds. This caused speculation about his health.
