Controversial City Lawyer Male Mabirizi has been sent to Kitalya Prison following his arrest on Monday from Kyambogo University Banda gate.

Recently, Justice Musa Ssekana ordered for his arrest on sight as he was on the run to serve 18 months at Kitalya for contempt of court.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that Mabirizi was picked on the basis of the Warrant of arrest issued by court. He was temporarily detained at Jinja Road Police station before being transfered to Kitalya Prison at around 7:30 pm.

“The arrest warrant issued by the High Court against Mabirizi directed any police officer to arrest him and deliver him to the prison mentioned in the committal warrant with immediate effect,” said Owoyesigyire.

Prisons spokesperson, Frank Baine also confirmed that Mabirizi is at their facility.

Before Mabirizi was arrested, he challenged the orders by Justice Ssekaana labeling them illegal. The lawyer argued that no man can be a judge in his own cause.

He consequently ran to the Court of Appeal to challenge all orders including one of fining him Shs300 million and the 18-month prison sentence.
