The former Electoral Commission boss, Badru Kiggundu has revealed why Dr Kizza Besigye never became a president during his tenure. Appearing on a local TV station recently, Kiggundu was asked a few questions.
When answering the question of whether he has ever met Besigye face-to-face, he replied that yes, he has ever. He said but the encounter sent shivers in his nerves.
“I entered the office and saw Dr. Kizza Besigye, I greeted him but he never replied, he just looked up at me and acted surprised to be surprised to meet me. He asked me why he never won the position of becoming the president of Uganda and I replied “You are always tough and no one can vote for you, roaring like a lion is making people scared.”
From 2002 until 2016, he served as the chairman of the Electoral Commission of Uganda. During the fourteen years that Kiggundu spent at the helm of EC, the commission oversaw three general elections, in 2006, 2011, and 2016. Besigye lost all the elections.
With Kiggundu’s exit, Besigye also shunned the 2021 general elections.
