Opposition leaders express condolences over demise of Oulanyah

Opposition strongman Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, Leader of Opposition Mathius Mpuuga, four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye and several opposition leaders have condoled the demise of Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah who died yesterday in Seattle, USA.

Bobi Wine expressed his condolences and said, “I join the people of Uganda in mourning the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.

On behalf of the NUP and on my own behalf, I extend deep condolences to his family, friends, the people of the Acholi Sub-region and all Ugandans. May his soul rest in peace.”

Mpuuga also extended his condolences to Oulanyah’s family, friends, and the Parliamentary fraternity.

It’s with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, the Parliamentary fraternity, the people of Omoro and the NRM that he served as V/Cman for Northern Uganda.

May his family find fortitude in the Lord who gives and takes, and in His magnanimity grant our dear brother eternal rest,” he said.

Besigye also mourned Oulanyah’s death saying, “I send sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon Jacob Oulanyah. Please know that we shall keep you in our thoughts & prayers.”

Alliance for National Transformation 2021 presidential candidate Mugisha Muntu said, “Earlier today, I learnt of the passing of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. I extend my condolences to his family, members of Parliament and all that knew him. May God grant you the strength and grace to go through this undeniably difficult time.”

Extending his condolences, Forum for Democratic Change president Patrick Amuriat Oboi said, “I have learnt of the death of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori. I mourn with and convey my condolences to my fellow Ugandan, his family and friends upon this sad occurrence. Go well, comrade of many years.”

Kira Municipality Legislator, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, also mourned, saying, “Jacob Oulanyah was a great speaker and a colourful person. This parliament will miss him. He knew how to handle bills. I disagreed with his politics, but I felt safe in his hands-on matters of the law.”
