The Acholi Parliamentary group has endorsed Woman Member of Parliament for Kitgum District, Lillian Aber to vie for the Deputy Speaker position.

“As we mourn our brother Jacob Oulanyah, we strive to maintain the standard in the region and replicate what he has done. To Acholi MP’s (APG) who have endorsed me for the D/S position: I respect the decision as we wait for the NRM CEC decision,” reads part of Aber’s tweet.

She is hopeful that the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) will consider the Acholi region as it is one of their own (Oulanyah) who was in charge of parliament.

The party’s Electoral Commission chairman, Tanga Odoi, says they are ready to receive whoever is interested in picking nomination forms to vie for the Speakership. However, he discloses that they have no vacancy for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

“The Speaker of Parliament is where we have a vacancy and not the position of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. We implement the law as it is,” says Odoi.

He adds, “Ministers expressing interest today as NRM flag bearers for the Speakership race don’t have to resign until CEC endorses them tomorrow.”

Odoi also notes that no convoys shall be allowed inside the NRM Electoral Commission offices.
