Over the weekend, calm was restored following the burial of fallen Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, whose burial processions had been the talk of the country ever since his demise was announced.

However, while the speaker was being laid to rest, National Unity Platform (NUP) Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was trending throughout the weekend after he made a trip to see the family of the fallen speaker a day after the burial.

According to communication off his Facebook page, Bobi Wine had to travel early on Saturday morning to deliver his condolences to the fallen speaker’s family since he couldn’t make it to the burial due to pre-scheduled arrangements he had in Geneva, Switzerland.

The NUP leader said he was warmly welcomed by high-ranking leaders from the Acholi community and was grateful to Ambassador Dr. Olara Otunnu for coordinating the visit.

While at the visit, Dr. Olara Otunnu was particularly bitter with a section of Acholi leaders who misspoke, claiming that after the exchanges surrounding Oulanyah’s death, NUP cannot cross the Karuma with Acholi being cordoned off as a “no go” zone for the party.

This is according to a Twitter video that has since gone viral.

Olara strongly categorized the claims as un-Acholi and un-Ugandan.

“Acholi land remains an equal opportunity territory for all political parties to organize, mobilize, and canvas for support,” he noted.

Olara further added that the notion of drawing a red line to keep some parties from the region away for unfounded reasons is “utter-nonsense”, thus categorizing it as unacceptable.

“For evil to thrive, it only takes good people to be quiet,” he added.

There has been growing hostility towards the National Unity Platform from a certain section of Acholi’s leaders with claims that the party was behind the protests in America that were aimed at discrediting Oulanyah’s entitlement to state medical treatment.
