The Omoro County by-election slated for May 26th this year is taking shape as the country’s formidable political parties have already announced their flag bearers.

The ruling NRM party was the first to announce that they will be represented in the election by the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s son, Andrew Ojok.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party also chose Toolit Simon Akecha as its candidate for the Omoro County MP by-election.

The latest to announce is the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party. Owani Denis Dick is their candidate.

Who is Owani Denis Dick?

Owani Denis Dick stood as independent in 2011 for the same post coming behind the late Oulanya and Toolit.

In 2016, he joined FDC and eventually agreed with Toolit to step down.

He is a businessman and a lecturer at Lira University. Earlier, he was working with the UN under its Rural Development Programmes in which he is said to have initiated many rural-based projects in the Omoro district, a reason he reportedly didn’t run in the 2021 elections.

According to FDC, Owani is a good orator, has a respectable body mass, and is of the required political age (not young, not old).

The party says that they found him a perfect fit not only because he is not new in the politics of the land, but he is also a trusted person of the community.
