Opposition Members of Parliament have agreed to boycott President Yoweri Museveni’s State of the Nation Address, slated for today at 2 pm.

According to the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga, the decision has been reached following consultations with the Whips of the six parties with representation in Parliament.

“The reasons for this are two. The first one is to show displeasure with his continued interference with the judiciary.

The second reason has to do with his failure to speak to and offer tangible solutions to the worsening economic situation in the country,” said Mpuuga.

Mpuuga further stated that while constitutionally it’s meant to be a State of the Nation Address, Museveni has instead reduced it to a ‘State of his feelings address.’

“That’s a huge constraint for us. We’re aware that even today, he’s going to say that he has nothing to do to get the country out of the depression. We are not interested in dozing,” he said.
