The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, has asked President Yoweri Museveni to desist from lavishly spending public money as if he is not aware of the current economic challenges.

While delivering his address this morning, Bobi Wine accused Museveni of making addresses that offer no relief or solution to citizens.

Bobi Wine said though Museveni is urging Ugandans to tighten their belts, he (Museveni) is doing the opposite at their cost.

“The State House and Office of the President have already taken Shs971 billion, one of the biggest expenditures in this financial year. And after spending all that on himself, Museveni is advising people to tighten their belts because prices are rising,” Bobi Wine said.

Bobi Wine advised Museveni to use his salary and look after his family.

“The president earns a salary, so that should be enough to take care of his family. No other budget should be allocated to him. He has become a burden to the national budget,” he said.

To curb the issue of rising prices of commodities, Bobi Wine urged the government to suspend taxes on fuel, vegetable oil, and wheat.

“This will help to reduce the prices of essential commodities.” We can recover the lost revenue by cutting the classified expenditure, “he said.
