The Lord Mayor of Munich City, Dieter Reiter, has halted the upcoming NRM Diaspora convention. The NRM Diaspora Convention was slated to take place on July 22 at the Allianz Arena, Olympic Stadium.

The decision comes after exiled writer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija wrote to the Lord Mayor of Munich, Reiter, asking him not to host the event.

In his letter, Kakwenza narrated how he and other Ugandans have been tortured, jailed, kidnapped, and killed for having divergent views from those of the ruling NRM.

In response to the cancellation of the event, the NRM Director of Communication, Emmanuel Dombo, said,

“I am sure if they wanted to know the truth they would have done so because the European Union (EU) and Germany have diplomatic representation in Uganda and are fully aware of almost all the things happening in the country. We shall progressively provide them with the correct information, as we always do. “
