The Electoral Commission has released the programme for conducting the by-election of the Member of Parliament for Busongora County South Constituency in Kasese District.

The by-election programme commenced with an update of the National Voters’ Register at all the 49 parishes in Busongora County South. The exercise started last week on Friday and ended on Tuesday.

The display of the voters’ register will be conducted for a period of ten (10) days, that is, from July 20 to July 29, 2022, at all the one hundred (100) polling stations in Busongora County South.

The Display of Parish Tribunal Recommendations for deletion from/or inclusion on the Voters’ Register will be conducted for six days, that is, from Friday, July 29 to August 3, 2022, at the respective parish headquarters.

The nomination of candidates will be conducted on August 8 and 9 at the Office of the District Returning Officer, Kasese.

Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for seven days, that is, from August 10 until August 16, 2022.

Polling and tallying of results for the by-election of a Member of Parliament will be conducted on August 18, 2022.

The parliamentary seat for Busongora County South fell vacant following a court ruling which set aside the results of the 2021 elections.

During the 2021 general elections, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Gideon Thembo Mujungu was declared the winner after garnering 7,601 votes against Mbaju Kathika’s 7,522 votes.
