Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has confirmed that two Lubiri High School teachers have been charged with negligence after students were recorded enjoying lap dances.

The two teachers are Joseph Nsubuga and Lydia Nabakka.

Last month, a video went viral showing female students rubbing themselves on their seated male counterparts on the bus.

The students were being transported on a bus that belonged to Midland High School. The group was being transported to the Agricultural Show in Jinja.

Several individuals criticized the act and asked the mandated authorities to look into the matter.

Days later, Enanga confirmed that their team headed by Commissioner Gender and Sexual Based Violence is actively investigating the incident.

Police have now issued a statement about the development of the matter.

“Following legal guidance from the DPP, it was established that there was a lack of sufficient supervision by the teachers during the field trip.”

“As a result, we are recommending to the school management the immediate suspension of students who participated in the indecent behavior,” said Enanga in a statement.

He explained that the recommendation will act as a lesson to other students in school to behave in a more responsible manner.

“Upon their return to school, they will be counseled by probation officers in charge of the area, on appropriate behavior and how to refocus their attention on learning,” he said.

The teachers have also been faulted for failing to properly supervise the bus activities.

All teachers charged with the duty of superintending students in school must exercise reasonable supervision over them and the attendant circumstances. In this instance, instead of warning the students, they left them to behave in an egregious and unsafe manner,” he said.

The two teachers are being charged with neglect to prevent a felony.
