Gregory Mugabe, the husband of Kobusheshe Milia Mugabe, has given notice of his intention to sue Butabika National Referral Hospital, a facility he accuses of being responsible for the disappearance of his wife.

Through his lawyers from Reeve Advocates, Gregory states that on July 13, 2022, he took his wife Milia to Butabika Hospital to receive specialized mental health care, and the facility formally received her.

“The patient (Kobusheshe Milia Mugabe) was dully received in the hospital at about 10 a.m, assessed as being in critical condition, and by the time our client left, treatment had already been started on the patient,” reads the notice in part.

Four days later, Gregory went back to the facility to check on his wife.

According to the notice, the patient pleaded to be taken out of the hospital, claiming that she was not sick and complaining about the quality of food at the hospital.

“Your very own officers intimated to our client that the patient needed treatment and that our client should just leave her sight.”

“Our client, well aware that the treatment was in the best interests of the wife, tried to comfort her and paid for some special meals at the canteen so the wife could break the monotony of the food served by the hospital,” asserts the notice.

Earlier this week, Gregory returned to the facility only to be informed that his wife had been discharged and handed over to her “relatives.”

“Negligently and or knowingly and without alerting our client, who was duly indicated as the next of kin of Milia; you stopped the much-needed treatment and instead handed over our client’s wife to unknown people, putting her life at a greater risk than before,” reads the notice.

It adds, “Our client has since tasked you to trace his wife and produce her body, alive or dead, but you have adamantly refused to take action.”

According to the notice, the husband has given Butabika Hospital an ultimatum of 24 hours to produce the wife dead or alive.

He also demands the hospital compensate him with Shs500m in damages and Shs10m for legal fees.
