Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Persis Namuganza reportedly escaped an assassination attempt in Bukoto on Wednesday.

“There was an attempt to assassinate me yesterday (Wednesday) from Bukoto,” Namuganza told journalists at parliament on Thursday.

According to Namuganza, the incident happened around Bemuga House near the Bukoto traffic lights.

The minister further disclosed that the suspected assailants, who were moving on a motorcycle, targeted her window and hit it with a hard object.

Namuganza said that her guards quickly swung into action, forcing the assailants to escape via Kisasi Road.

According to Namuganza, police at Kira also responded quickly in trying to nab the reported assailants but were unsuccessful.

The minister said that she has been receiving death threats, which she has proceeded to report to her boss, President Yoweri Museveni.

Namuganza becomes the second government official within a space of just a month to report assassination attempts on her life. Two weeks ago, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, said that unknown people were trailing her vehicles.
