Another health worker dies after battle with Ebola

The minister of health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, has announced that Nabisubi Margaret, an anesthetic officer at Mubende Referral Hospital, has succumbed to Ebola.

According to Dr. Aceng, the 58-year-old succumbed to Ebola this morning at Fort Portal Hospital (JMedic) after battling the disease for 17 days.

The late Margaret becomes the fourth health worker who has lost the battle against Ebola after the probable case of the midwife, Dr. Mohammed Ali, and the health assistant in Kagadi District.

So far, at least eight health workers have tested positive for Ebola, including intern doctors and senior house officers (all trainees) who were stationed at the center of the outbreak at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital and other health workers, according to the Uganda Medical Association (UMA).

Since the initial Ebola outbreak was discovered in Mubende, infections have been found in three other districts—Kassanda, Kyegegwa, and Kagadi.

According to the last updates from the health ministry, Uganda has 43 cumulative confirmed cases with 24 active cases on admission. A total of nine people has succumbed to Ebola.
