Former Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi appointed Muni University Chancellor

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, as the new Chancellor of Muni University.

Orombi replaces Dr. Erick Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko, who served for two terms following his installation in 2016. Orombi has been given a contract for a period of four years.

“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 and acting on the recommendation of the University Council I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni do hereby appoint Henry Luke Orombi as Chancellor of Muni University,” reads the Instrument of Appointment.

Orombi served as Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala Diocese from 2004 until his retirement in December 2012.

Muni University is a public university established by the Uganda Government by Statutory Instrument, 2013 No. 31, in accordance with the Universities & Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2006 as amended. Muni University campus is located in Arua City, 3 km south of Arua town in North-Western Uganda.

The university opened its doors for the first cohort of students in November 2014. Currently, the university has an enrollment of 676 students. The university started with only one faculty, the Faculty of Technoscience, but now has six other faculties offering 15 academic programmes.
