Kabale University’s leadership has sacked Dr. Nafiu Lukman Abiodun, the head of the Department of Economics and Statistics after he was allegedly found guilty of sexual harassment.

Reports indicate that Abiodun would allegedly demand sex from female students in exchange for marks, and those that refused got retakes.

However, his luck ran out when some of the female students recorded him demanding sex over the phone.

A committee was established by the university to conduct investigations

In a letter addressed to Dr. Lukman Nafiu Abiodun by the Kabale University Secretary, Johnson Baryantuma Munono, he said that the Nigerian lecturer has been sacked after he was found guilty of sexual harassment, failure to follow examination regulations, and professional negligence.

“I regret to inform you that the appointment board of Kabale University under min. 598/60/AB/2022 found you guilty of sexual harassment, failure to follow examination regulations, and professional negligence,” read part of the letter.

It adds, “The board further directed you to be severely reprimanded as your interdiction be lifted. The board further resolved not to renew your contract as a senior lecturer of statistics when it expires on November 11th, 2022.

“You are therefore required to hand over all university property in your possession to the dean of the faculty of economics and management in the presence of an auditor.”

Meanwhile, reports of students complaining about their lecturers demanding sex in exchange for academic favors have long been prevalent at all public and private universities in the country.

This has negatively impacted the caliber of students at various universities in Uganda and diminished the respect that lecturers are accorded.
