The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), led by Commander Operation Sujja Major General Dick Olum, are still carrying out operations in Ntoroko district following an attack from suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels on Tuesday morning.

The army said the rebels crossed River Semuliki into Kyanja as they raided Ntoroko, which borders the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Col. Deo Akiiki, the deputy army spokesperson, said that the army intercepted an attempted raid by the ADF fighters, resulting in some of the rebels drowning while others were killed.

At least 17 suspected ADF rebels, three civilians, and one UPDF soldier were killed during the exchange of gunfire between the army and the rebels.

According to General Olum, they have managed to recover 10 AK-47s, 1 PKM, lots of rounds of PKM, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), magazines, gun oil, walkie-talkies, over nine mobile phones, and detonators of IEDs from the rebels.

Also, about 13 rebels have been captured.

Col. Deo Akiiki claims that by this morning, the army might have wiped out the entire group (ADF rebels).

“I would like to thank the people of that area. They were very cooperative in terms of providing information and responding to our calls to vacate the battleground. As of this morning, all of them were going back,” he said.
