Suspected leader of gang attacking police stations arrested in Masaka

Police recovered nine guns and improvised explosive devices from the home of a suspected ADF operative intercepted riding on a motorcycle in Masaka City’s Kyali-Kyalugo village, Nyendo Mukungwe Division.

The suspect, identified as Ali Katende, a senior ADF commander of the Nyendo, Masaka terror cell, according to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga.

The tangible exhibits recovered include; one PK machine gun, seven SMGs, a pistol, and explosives.

“We have further established, that he was part of the group, that attacked Busika Police Station on October 31, 2022, where three police officers, namely; D/IP Bagaluka Alex, PC Ongol Moses, and PC Odama Stephen, were killed in the line of duty.

The suspects were also behind the attack and murder of two civilians namely; Kalyango Ibra and Nsubuga Peter, at Kasule Ayanguwa village, Budde Sub County in Butambala district,” said Enanga.

He is closed that they have also obtained information on the identities and descriptions of the other ADF remnants, still at large, who were trying to reconstitute and establish operational cells in Wakiso District and Masaka city.

This is the third counter-terror operation conducted by the police within two weeks, which follows the earlier ones conducted in Maganjo and Matugga.
