As Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Franci Zaake was busy celebrating his birthday yesterday, the Parliamentary Police, on the directive of the Clerk to Parliament, raided his residence and retrieved a motor vehicle, Reg. No. UG 0333H, belonging to the Parliamentary Commission.

According to the Director of Communication and Public Affairs at the Parliament of Uganda, Chris Obore, the action was prompted by Zaake’s refusal to return the government property that, by policy, is supposed to be driven by an official driver.

“The Clerk to Parliament had advised Hon Zaake several times to follow the guidelines governing the management of government fleets and return the car,” Obore explained.

Obore stated that the car was delivered by the police and is now safe in the Parliament parking lot.

In March last year, 156 out of 161 MPs voted to remove Zaake as commissioner after he was probed by Parliament over a statement he had reportedly made on social media against then-Deputy Speaker Anita Among, who is now the Speaker.

The parliamentary committee found Zaake guilty of misconduct.

However, Zaake dragged parliament to court, claiming that events surrounding his censure and removal from the Parliament Commission were illegal and contravened the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.

The case is still in court.
