Members of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) have this afternoon returned to parliament after about two years in prison.

When they arrived at the stairs of parliament, they knelt for almost two minutes with their hands raised and prayed.

The two MPs were welcomed by fellow legislators before going into a meeting with Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

“We are happy to be welcoming back our two colleagues, Hon. Allan Ssewanyana and Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad. We are always happy when we see our colleagues here being able to join us in the deliberations of this house,” said Tayebwa.

Ssegirinya made a brief media appearance.

“This is a special day for me and Hon Ssewanyana. The parliament police officers who used to chase me around have today accorded me the respect I deserve,” said Ssegirinya.

The comic added, “You don’t know how many boxers of mine they have destroyed. But today they warmly welcomed me. Indeed, I am finally back.”

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana had only spent 110 days in the House before they were arrested two years ago.

The two are battling terrorism and murder charges that happened in Masaka in 2021.
