Parliament has approved a proposal to support the local football governing body, FUFA and the Football Association of Tanzania to field a joint bid to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the AFCON 2027.

This was after FUFA president Moses Magogo informed parliament that President Museveni had last year told CAF President Patrick Motsepe of Uganda’s intentions to co-host AFCON 2027.

According to Magogo, an agreement has been struck with Tanzania to jointly bid.

Magogo said with co-hosting, Uganda needs at least three stadiums while Tanzania also needs the same number to present a bid.

He identified Buhinga in Kabarole, Akii Bua and Masaka Recreational Centre as the facilities that could be developed in case Namboole and St Mary’s Kitende are also available in great shape for continental football.

His comments were made as parliament was debating a report by the Committee on Education and Sports on the government’s failure to use funding from the Chinese government to construct Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal and Akii-Bua.
