Renowned musician turned politician, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has called upon fellow artists to refrain from seeking government handouts and instead focus on advocating for the amendment of copyright laws that will enable them to earn from their artistic talents.

During the final send-off ceremony of the late actor Kato Lubwama, Bobi Wine emphasized the need for artists to assert their independence from relying on the government for support. He asserted that the entertainment industry can thrive autonomously if proper legislation is enacted and effectively implemented.

Expressing his skepticism towards reports that the government is set to give Shs30 billion to the Musicians Federation, Bobi Wine questioned the significance of such financial aid. He highlighted the importance of establishing favourable legal frameworks to secure artists’ rights and fair compensation, rather than relying solely on monetary assistance.

While reflecting on his relationship with the late Kato Lubwama, Bobi Wine acknowledged their differences but highlighted how art always brought them together.

The funeral ceremony held in Nkozi, Mpigi, drew hundreds of mourners, including prominent figures like Gen Katumba Wamala and Members of Parliament, as well as fellow artists. Kato Lubwama was laid to rest at around 6:30 pm, evoking tears from his loved ones and friends.
