President Yoweri Museveni has made an announcement confirming his recovery from COVID-19 after testing positive in his latest test.

In a statement released this evening, Museveni stated, “On the war with Corona, it is now confirmed that I am a veteran graduate of the war with that enemy. Today, the samples showed that I had turned negative. Even the samples from Wednesday last week showed a reduced presence of the virus parts. The glory goes to God. Let us follow His teachings with genuineness.”

The president had entered self-isolation on June 8, a day after presiding over the State of the Nation Address, following a positive COVID-19 test result.

In a statement shared on Twitter this evening, Museveni shared his experience of battling the virus for the past 11 days.

He admitted to initially ignoring the symptoms until he experienced a slight running nose the following day, prompting him to seek medical attention and have samples taken for testing.

“At 11:00 hours, they came back to tell me that two of the samples were negative but one was positive. That is when I decided to travel to Kololo for the Address in separate cars with Maama,” Museveni explained. Initially, he wanted to drive himself but later learned from his doctors that the driver’s compartment was separated from the rear compartment in terms of air-conditioning.

From the beginning, Museveni acknowledged the mildness of his symptoms but emphasized the need for self-isolation to combat the virus and prevent its spread.

He urged Ugandans to adopt various healthy practices, including avoiding alcohol, promiscuity, careless driving, malaria, smoking, and prioritizing exercise, as well as consuming a nutritious African diet comprising maize, cassava, millet, bananas, fruits, milk, beef, chicken, fish, and more.

Additionally, he advised the population to get vaccinated against preventable diseases and maintain adequate vitamin levels.

Reflecting on the impact of vitamin deficiency on health, Museveni shared his personal experience of having low vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels. Upon discovering this, he immediately began taking the necessary vitamins and later received immunization and boosters.

The president highlighted the importance of timely immunization and maintaining adequate vitamin levels, underscoring the need for disease prevention measures rather than solely relying on curative interventions.

Museveni also mentioned his struggle with face mask allergies, which led him to temporarily remove his first line of defense against the virus, causing further complications.

Addressing the issue of Covidex, a product claimed to treat COVID-19, Museveni questioned why it has not yet been officially authorized or disproven. He requested a prompt response from Dr. Monica Musenero regarding the matter, emphasizing the seriousness required in assessing such claims.
