During the ongoing FDC National Consultative Meeting at Nsambya Sharing Hall, Ssemujju Nganda, the spokesperson for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, has expressed his determination to safeguard the party from being sold to President Yoweri Museveni.

Ssemujju unveiled allegations of a plot by certain prominent members within the party National Council to hand over the FDC to President Museveni.

According to Ssemujju, this group intends to exploit upcoming party elections to advance their agenda. He disclosed their purported plan, stating, “The planned FDC elections will result in Patrick Amuriat being appointed as party President and Nandala Mafabi as Secretary General. Subsequently, Nandala, who will have ‘won’ the flagbearer elections, will engage in a friendly alliance with Museveni in 2026 and eventually hand over the FDC to him.”

Expressing his strong opposition, Ssemujju declared, “I refuse to be part of a process that will bring about leadership akin to that of Mao, whose primary objective is to lead the party into the hands of Museveni.”

The Kira Municipality MP further accused Nandala and Amuriat of receiving funds from unknown sources during the 2021 presidential campaigns.

He pledged to embark on a series of consultation meetings across the country to gather insights and potential solutions to address the internal struggles within the party.

The FDC has grappled with internal power struggles over the years, resulting in the resignations of key members, including Gen Mugisha Muntu, Winnie Kizza, and Paul Mwiru, among others. These challenges continue to impact the party’s unity and cohesion as it strives to navigate its future trajectory.
