In the midst of a leadership crisis within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Amuriat, the party president, has stated that he will disclose the identities of his 2021 presidential campaign funders, as they have requested anonymity.

During a press conference held at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Amuriat said that his choice was driven by the intention to safeguard the funders from potential targeting by the current regime.

“We cannot risk exposing them to the junta regime. Some may be businesspeople or government employees who share our beliefs. Disclosing their identities publicly would be a betrayal we are unwilling to commit,” Amuriat explained.

He further clarified, “Contrary to accusations, the FDC has never received funds from Museveni. Any financial support the party receives through the Electoral Commission is legal and properly accounted for.”

Amuriat’s response follows allegations made by the faction led by Ssemujju Nganda, accusing both Amuriat and FDC Secretary-General Nandala Mafabi of accepting financial contributions from the ruling party during the 2021 election period.

Addressing the accusations of plotting to sell the party to President Yoweri Museveni, Amuriat urged party members to remain calm and steadfast.

He asserted, “FDC is our party, built with the dedication of our youthful lives. We will never sell it to anyone, regardless of the amount of money offered.”

Amuriat also directed strong criticism towards Erias Lukwago, who sided with Ssemujju, labeling him a mercenary.

“The Lord Mayor’s history is evident; he has continuously sought political experiences by hopping from one institution to another. He may have thought he could be a mercenary here, but we have no room for mercenaries,” Amuriat stated.

He vowed that disciplinary action will be taken against those who have gone against the party values.
